Red Riding Hood

The most recent film i went to see at my local cinema was the new Red Riding Hood and boy i wish i hadn't. I went with my girl friend and said i would keep an open mind while watching it. The fact that Cathrine Hardwicke (director of the Twilight saga) directed this film and it involved ware wolfs was a massive off put from the start. I was never expecting a great film and i wasn't wrong.

The film is about Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) and her love triangle with the boy she loves, Peter (Shiloh Ferdinand), and the boy she is arranged to marry by her family, Henry (Max Irons). Both of them looked like they should be in a v05 hair commercial or Twilight. Their village is being terrorized by a ware wolf that is taking their live stock and killing civilians. A search party goes to kill the wolf one night and think they are victorious but Father Soloman (Gary Oldman) shows and tells them other wise. It turns out that someone in the village is the wolf at night, so being in the retarded time that this film is set people turn on each other and accuse one another of witch craft.

I really did not enjoy this film for a number of reasons. The first being the acting was rather hit and miss from all the actors and actresses. When people died it looked like they where falling asleep rather than dieing. Secondly was that there was no element of mystery about the ware wolf. Hardwicke could have made the wolf a lot more scary and mysterious by keeping it in the shadows and only showing quick glimpses when it moved. There is one piece in the film that made my jump and that was a normal wolf witch was a lot scarier than the actual ware wolf. The film did a good job in keeping the audience guessing who was the ware wolf in the village and i would be surprised if any one in the theater guessed who it was from the start.

This film gets a appalling 1/5. The reason for a 1 and not a 0 was the fact that i think the director did what she set out to do which was to make a crappy Twilight kind of film that only 13 year olds and gay boys will enjoy. Don't take my word for it go see it for your self if you think other wise. Click here to see the trailer, and here for the IMDB page.

As always thanks for reading. I would love to hear some of your views on the film and some feed back on my writing. Follow and contact me on Twitter to let me know @athreed, or email me at anything3declare@gmail.com.

Brick

After a quick recommendations list from my various facebook friends i was told to watch the 2005 film, Brick. So i checked it out on the trusty IMDB and watched the trailer, thought the film looked worth a buy so i did just that at my local HMV store.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Brick follows Brendan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a high school "geek" who finds out the girl he loves has been killed. He will stop at nothing to find the story and killer behind her death. He soon finds out his love, Emily (Emilie de Ravin), was dating some bad apples from and underground criminal drugs circle. Becoming involved and working undercover with his whiz kid friend the Brain (Matt O'Leary) Brendan finds him self in some difficult physical and mental situations. This crime drama mystery will keep your peepers glued to the screen, your mind on the move and heart racing.

Brick had me hooked from the very beginning with a sense of urgency from a frantic phone call kept me watching for the next 2 hours. There are a number of twists and turns through, along with a few laugh out loud moments. The acting in the film was very good, on Gordon-Levitt's part especially. He is convincing though out and you feel a real connection with his character and the hurt he is going through. The only down side was the geeks in this seemed a bit to hardcore and cool. The story line get complex in places but because you are dragged into the story it really gets those cogs turning. This film has it all in terms of mystery and action with some breath taking fight scenes and chases. I give Brick a solid WOAH MUMMA! out of 10.

Thanks for reading. If you would like to recommend a film for me to review please leave me a post on twitter @athreed or you can contact me by email at anything3declare@gmail.com.

Limitless

Hello, thanks for reading and welcome to another Anything3Declare film review. Today i shall be Reviewing the new release, Limitless. Directed by Niel Burger and written by Leslie Dixon.

The film is based on a novel written by Alan Glynn about a writer called Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) who is suffering from writers block. His life is slowly slipping down hill after breaking up with his girl friend Lindy (Abby Cornish). Eddie bumps into his ex-brother in law Vernon (Johnny Whitworth), and goes for a drink and a catch up with him. Eddie tells Vernon about the problems clouding his ability to write the book he is working on. Vernon introduces Eddie to NZT, a drag that enables the brain to use 100% of its power. By using his brain to full potential Eddie soon turns his life around by finishing his book in record time and becoming a stock market wizard and soon becomes involved with business big wig, Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro). Eddie thinks his life is on easy street, not for long though.

I'm going to stop there because if not i am going to ruin the film for you. I thought this film had a lot to offer in terms on entertainment and the message behind the movie... DRUGS ARE BAD KIDS! The cinematography in this film was superb. There are many continuous zooms that follow down various streets and through cities. Not only do these shots look as cool as your Granddad in socks and sandals they also give the fell that you are with Eddie as he travels the streets. One of those moments that make the cinema worth paying for. This movie also has an impressive soundtrack By Paul Leonard-Morgan with each track well placed and fitted with whats happening on screen. There are some bad ass fight scenes, that are well choreographed, and some blood drinking for all you Twilight gays out there.

The acting was poor in places mainly from Abby Cornish. There is a scene where she sounds like she is crying, because she is being chased but her face on body language says otherwise, wasn't to sure what was going on there. De Niro, well do i have to say anything? Great as always a pleasure to watch on screen. The actor i was most impressed with was Bradley Cooper. When i saw the trailer for this film i thought to myself "He cant do a roll like that, he was only good in the Hangover!" I was wrong. He fitted the roll perfectly and not once did i think too myself "It's ?Doug from the hangover."

Over all the film was a good watch, i would definitely consider buying this film. This film gets a rating of, "Hmm that got me thinking" out of 10. People who have seen the film let me know what you think by leaving a comment or you can tweet me @athreed

As always, thanks for reading. Peace.

Sucker punch.

It took me a fair while, but i have finally decided to dedicate this blog to reviews and anything else that takes my interest. The other day me and my lady friend when to watch Sucker Punch. "great!" i thought, fit women flipping around with guns, what more could a boy ask for? Oh how wrong i was.

The story follows Baby Doll (Emily Browning) who is sent to a mental institution by her step father. Apparently in those days you didn't need to be checked out by a doctor to go into a nut home. You just have to tick a few boxes and the person who's name is on the form is officially crazy. With the blink of an eye the mental house is now a brothel. Crazy right...? WRONG! This whore house is crawling with clunge. The girls are made to dance to entertain their boss Blue (Oscar Isaac) and his customers. But when Baby Doll dances people cannot help but keep their eyes fixed on her, the thing is you never get to see her dance at all, when she dances the scene switches to Baby Doll and her lady crew Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish), Rocket (Jena Malone), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) and Amber (Jamie Chung) in Baby Dolls imagination where they must find 5 thing that will help them all escape this mental house/brothel. They do this by fighting Nazi monsters in imagination land but in real time people are just dancing. Confused? You and me both.

The film is not all bad though, there is allot of eye candy, plenty of action and more prostitutes than you would know what to do with. I am still rather puzzled as to what actually happens in the film so if any one can help put my mind at rest please get in touch. Over all i would have to give this film a 5 out of 10 because the story doesn't really make sense but that is made up for with action and loverly lady's.

Thank you for reading, please get in touch and leave feedback to help me improve my reviewing and blogging. Thank you.
